Caulking tub and tile.?
Question:I'm having a problem sealing a tub tile. The tile is just below the lip of the tub. I would seal it wait for 2 to 3 days for the caulk to dry. Then I would use it. But I notice after a few days the caulk would not stick to the tub. It would do this in very small sections and in different areas. It seems like it is coming up. I am using a silicone kitchen and bath caulk. I have been messing with this for the last 3 weeks. Its really getting tiresome trying to seal this. Need some help big time.

Sherm is correct, fill the tub with water and clean the surface area where the caulking is being applied. Filling the tub with water puts weight into the tub, pushing it down. After the caulking is cured drain the tub which will allow the tub to rise, compressing the caulking. Then when you get in the tub it will not tear the caulking. I would not use a silicone, use a marine grade polyurethane which can be found at a hardware store. It is a little more expensive but well worth it.
Make sure the area you are caulking is very clean-- use rubbing alcohol to get off any scum or debris. Fill the tub with water before you caulk otherwise when you go to use it filled with water and your own weight it will pull the caulk away from the wall or tub.
GROUT IT IF IT IS TOO BIG AN AREA hmmm sher says to fill the tub with water first is he high?
Sounds like the surface may not be totally clean (tile & tub) Let it dry thoroughly apply 1/4 inch -1/3 inch bead all the way around, wet your finger and smooth. I use GE hitchen and bath sealant 100% silicone. The only other thing I can think ofis that the lip of the tub is not properly secured and is actually flexing when you step on it loosening the sealant.
