Where is the best place I can purchase river rock for a driveway?

Question:

Answers:
River rock is rounded and smooth, and the last thing to use as paving for a driveway, it will always move out of the way of a load and make grooves.
Buy crushed rock. From a quarry. Some prefer 1/4 minus size as it packs very tight, others prefer 3/4 gravel as it drains well. But the 3/4 is hard on bare feet and it is tough on small snow blowers.

Mark is talking about what is normally called crush and run.
I just priced some for my new driveway. Here in central Georgia, the price is $25.00 per ton. A cubic yard is 2.7 tons.
So, a cubic yard would cost about $58.00. A cubic yard at 4" thick will cover 81 square feet. That does not include spreading it .
you could go to a local bulk supplier and buy it by the truck load but disadvantage to that is usually other junk mixed in with that it is also cheaper than my next suggestion. At LOWES in garden center we sell clean river rock by the bag.would cost you more in long run but you dont have to clean out debris.
