How can i make my Garden more Enviromentally friendly and sustainable?
Question:
Answers:
Here are some thoughts, no doubt some will echo the responses of others but still...:
1. If possible, use reclaimed water to water your property or dig a well
2. Don't use chemicals. Ever. (There are a lot of natural alternatives available, like using Lady Bugs to combat aphids.)
3. Use "organic" fertilizers in reasonable quantities
4. Don't plant anything that requires excessive watering
5. If you can, use grasses that are more of a dwarf variety so you don't have to mow your lawn so often
6. Get an electric mower. (Though I like the idea of having a goat--first guy's answer.)
7. Grow your own veggies/have fruit-bearing trees and plants
8. Compost, compost, compost!
Hope that gets you going!
buy a goat to eat your grass in stead of using a petrol lawnmower
Limit or eliminate the use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers. Instead of fertilizers use compost or commercially sold compost tea to get nutrients into the soil. You can look up different natural types of pesticides such as using beer to wash aphids off of your roses and other plants. Pull weeds by hand instead of using herbicides. Best of luck
no toxic weed killers, plant flowers that attract butterflies, compost and use this fertilizer supply water for birds
Use a water but, get a compost bin. Use manure to help your plants grow.
You can buy a self-contained composting bin that you can throw kitchen scraps like vegetable scraps and eggshells into. They go into the top as garbage and in a few weeks come out of the bottom as a rich, organic soil ammendment.
Use compose of organic garbage instead of chemical products.
There's several books on the subject: use beer and copper to get the slugs, mild soap for aphids. Get a rabbit trap so you have a protein source . . ..
I chop all of my leaves up with my lawn mower in the fall, i pile it on top of the garden, add kitchen scaps (veggies) all winter, aerate a few times in the late winter. you'll get veggies growning that you did'nt even plant. I have tomato's and oinions that just grew from scraps, the soil is black with nutrients from the leaves, my pumpkins plants exploded already. I don't bag my grass clippings, i keep the blade sharp, a new spark plug really cuts down on pollution, I cut the grass quickly, and use a four stroke lawn mower.
concrete then paint it green
let it go wild
