How is a marble fireplace fitted?
Question:What can you use to fix a marble fire surround to the wall?
Answers:
There are steel brackets (electro-brassed) available at B&Q,
They have 3 holes two for securing to the marble, and the other pokes out the side so that it can be affixed to the wall with a rawlplug and countersunk wood screw. I have seen them used to secure heavy mirrors. As you intend securing marble it would be necessary to carefully masonery drill the back of the marble, insert a plug and secure with a screw, also using epoxy adhesive as a belt & braces approach.
Home centers sell high temperature adhesive that comes in a caulking tube that works perfectly.
Usually Fire surrounds ,Marble or any other kind ,have brackets on the back that secures them to the wall. Most look like an L bracket. Check to see if maybe it has just pulled loose, maybe the bracket has pulled off all together. Being so heavy, you really should use brackets and anchors to reattach it back to the wall. You might have to re-drill into the marble using a masonry bit ,and put a new bracket on. They make fire/heat surround glues and if it's only pulled out a tiny bit, you might be able to reattach it that way. Good Luck, Any more questions, feel free to e-mail. Bye
you can get a marble filler for when you drill into marble, the only way is drill to the wall or it will look like a pigs A hole
use a tile cutting drill bit.
