Nice looking pipe, not necessarily old though. appears to have been smoked a little, not a great deal though. The pipe will age with handling, it absorbs oils from your hands and from the tobacco, it will age a honey gold color, the stem looks as though it hasn't been used a lot. I have three or four, the figure on yours looks nautical, like the bow of a ship. If it is really old it has been stored most of it's life.
when i smoked i had three of them, hand carved in turkey. not worth much more than 40 or 50 dollars, though may have value to pass on to the heirs for posterity. nothing more.
it is a soft stone found in the region of turkey and greece, used for carving and sculpting items such a pipes. they are still available in smoke shops nationwide.
It looks like a meershaum. It also looks fairly un smoked, because after years of use they inhale the color of tobacco and become a sort of shiny brown.
It probably cost about 75 bucks when new back in the 70's or 80's when pipes and cigars came in to favor for a while. I had an old one, I never liked it much. It smoked hot despite their reputation for cool. Maybe in contrast to clay pipes which are really hot.
