Plumbing: leaky shutoff valve fix ?

Question:

Answers:
buy a new compression fitting shut-off valve turn the water off to the whole house cut the old valve off just below and put the new one on. easy fix for cheap.

tighten it up.
If its leaking from the handle area,it might only need to be tightened up. Its hard to answer the questian because I can't see valve
The handle goes into a nut which holds the insides together. Sometimes the nut is loose. Turn off the main. open the shutoff valve. tighten the nut just enough so that you can still operate the shutoff. If it tightens real easy when you start, then that was the problem.
Tighten the packing nut
you are talking about shut off's to a sink or toilet, not outside cutoff? if so, as said in a previous answer, replace leaky valve. you will need a tubing cutter though and the correct fittings. the tubing cutter is a goof tool to have anyway though! once you have old valve off take it and a digi pic of line, (if possible), to hardware guy and ask for fittings and how to install. ALSO as previously said, SHUT OFF WATER!

any time i do any thing under a sink on a older property, i almost atways put new valves on while im down there.
replace it.
where?
