When installing a new bathtub, how do you connect the drainpipe to the P-trap if you have no access from under

Question:This is a second floor bathroom.

Answers:
Either you leave enough room to work from over the tub, (false front wall) or you have an access panel in the back wall. I have had jobs where, (due to concrete wall and floor) I had to make sure that my measurements were precise and set the tub over the pipes. All that had to be done was to set the base drain screw, and attach the over flow screws.

If you have a real tight space, call a plumber for this one item. Think of it as insurance.

Call a plumber . . . they know how to do all that stuff.
If you use the plastic fittings with the plastic glue you line everything up and have your bath jacked up above the outlet where you have to glue then lower it down until the glued pipe goes into the other fixed pipe.~~
You can use a flex tube, You can probably get it at any home depot. Pick up the tub, attach the flex to both ends and set it back down... try that.
You cut a trap door in the wall opposite the tub large enough to work on the drain. They are usually about 14" to 20" wide and 24" to 36" tall. You can case out 3 sides and cover the opening with 1/4" plywood. If it is a replacement for an old tub you might find there is a trap door already.

If you cannot make a trap door in the wall you'd need one in the ceiling below. Much the same way as described.
Usually through the access panel. Where you can also access the faucet from another room, or in a closet..

Most codes require an access panel, but it's not upheld in new construction inspections.

That's because the access hole will be cut in later when the faucet or drain as to be replaced, or worked on.

That being the case, you may not have an access panel in a closet or in the room on the other side of the front of the tub.

Make one. Trim it with wood molding and it'll look good.
