How do i remove a pop up drain on a bath tub?
Question:i need to remove a pop up dain on a bath tub so i can unclog it, any other ideas please tell.
Answers:
Depending on the type of popup drain plug that you have, it should most likely unscrew like a regular screw (righty-tighty, lefty-loosey). If you want to run a snake through the drain, you are going to have to remove the piece underneath the plug as well. There is a special tool for removing that piece available at hardware stores. You might want to go to a local hardware store (not a big box store) and find a drain plug similar to your own and ask a salesperson how to remove it.
Most bathtub clogs are caused by hair. The absolute best stuff to use, if you think you can handle it, is a sulfuric acid drain opener. You have to be very careful as it is very corrosive and gives off a strong odor that smells like rotten eggs and can give you a headache. But it is an almost guaranteed first try solution that won't harm your pipes. Ask about it at a hardware store.
I have had my bathtub drain get clogged & I put some Dawn dish soap & hot water down the drain. I waited a while, & then used a plunger on it a few times. In the morning, the drain was unclogged. Try it & see if it works.
there should be a small set screw on the drain plug that will allow you to loosen it and take it off
