Is it safe to cook meat over over burning logs in a fire ring?

Question:

Answers:
I guess you've never been to a BBQ?

I`m sure it is, but you may want to avoid some types of wood such as pine or cedar, because it may alter the flavor of the meat.
Yes, it is entirely safe, as long as you use appropriate firewood. I've seen a few fools in my day cooking while burning treated lumber in the fire. As long as the firewood you use is of the 'natural' variety, you should have no health concerns. Just don't be burning any treated or painted/varnished scrap woods and cooking over that flame.
A grill over it would be a good idea. Please be carefull where I'm at it is awfull dry and open fires are illegal right now something else you might want to find out about where your camping.
any hardwood is fine to cook over. make sure where you are camping allows the bringing in of firewood. a few states dont want you bringing in firewood from home due to the spread of wood harming insects. i live in the allegheny national forest in pa. and there is a ban on bringing in firewood from out of the area. plan on buying or gathering it when you get to camp...
Yes. We just got back from camping and cooked steaks over a fire with hickory. It was so tasty!
Sure, not a problem. I would recommend not using pine logs though or they may impart a "pine" taste to the food.
Isn't that called barbeque?
Is there any other way?
People have been doing this for the past 10,000 years, I still think it would be safe for you to go ahead and try it.
