How do you make a torch?
Question:I went camping last week and tried to make a quick torch...what I did was take a bunch of small sticks and tie them up with rope in bundles of five or six...tied them together near top and bottom. Then I took six of those bundles and tied them along a larger stick, with the sticks all parallel to each other. I tied them at the top and bottom and all along with more rope.
The only problem, which I realized while making it, is that when the torch lit it shortly after burned through the rope holding all of the sticks together, and they all collapsed off.
So what is a better way to build a lasting torch?
Answers:
Try some Cotton rope, sticks, and use bailing wire to tie it off with. Put some lighter fluid in a jar and soak the rope in it first. Zippo Lighters uses cotton material braided with brass wire, if that helps you at all.(for their lighter wicks) Also if you soak a wick in vinegar for two hours ,let it fully dry before use, will make it burn brighter and longer. That's just something I thought was interesting. It works too. Bye
you get a can of hair spray, preferably a large one 48 oz or more, and a lighter, butane works well, then... click flick and boom
Tie a big rag to the end of a stick, all wadded up, dip it in oil and light it. The oil burns first and then eventually it burns the rag. If you put the torch out before you burn the rag, you can dip it in oil again and re-light it.
