How to hook up 220 electrical out let?

Question:

Answers:
your main line has 2 hotwires (each 1/2 phase out of each other) coming in at 110 , so you have to connect to both to get 220. If you have wired a 110 outlet, a 220 is not much more difficult, just with 2 hots and 1 neutral. make sure you have the correct wire and breaker for it. if you have another 220 coming from your breaker you can use that as a guide. 220 appliances need a dedicated circuit so don't try to tap into a current circuit. If you are not completely comfortable with wiring in general don't try it.

Red and black wires are hot and the white is neutral. The green is your ground wire. These color groups will coordinate in consistency with the wires already in the outlet box.
you should have in the outlet box
2 blacks or black and red
1 white
1 ground green or bare

connect the line to the line side of the outlet
connect white to neutral
connect ground to ground if you are dealing with a 4 prong outlet

if its just a 3 prong connect blacks as some and neutral to remaining term ale
by calling a certified electrician
now if you wan't to follow all the above make sure your power is off
You aren't very specific as to what you have. If you trying to make a 110 into a 220 you'd best call an electrician. If you are trying to make a new 220 line from you breaker box it would be best to call an electrician. You need two 110 volt wires going to your new plug and they can't be on the same buss bar. 220 power is different in that the two 110's have to be alternating. Again, call an electrician.
the way i do it is to get an electrician to do it for me.
voltage is nothing to triffle with, and it can fry you real good
There are 3-wire, 4-wire, and 5-wire systems, 30-amp, 40-amp, and 50-amp plugs, all of which are different. Which do you have?
