How do I get a toilet auger that is stuck in my toilet out?
Question:My son flushed a toy down the toiilet. Tried to use my hand, a coat hanger, and finally the auger to remove it. The auger is stuck now all the way in the toliet. I guess it must be caught on the train ar something? Can I still remove the toilet? How do I get all the water out of it first w/ that thing stuck in there? This is a mess!
Answers:
Turn off the supply valve. Flush the toilet. Remove standing water in the tank and in the bowl (a sponge works best). Remove the tank. Remove the bowl from the floor. Extract the train and auger. Replace the wax ring. Reseat the bowl. Reattach the tank and plumbing. Don't overtighten the anchor bolts or you will crack the bowl!
Easy job.
Let me reiterate one thing that dsgrieve said: Replace the wax ring. Don't re-install the toilet on the old one. If you do you'll only be pulling the toilet back up again. Do as he wrote and you should be fine. But have a rag handy so you can shove it into the hole to stop the fumes from making you sick.
First, using a cup, empty the back of the toilet. Then whatever water is left in the bowl. Then you'll have to remove the whole toilet to get everything out. Be sure to buy a new toilet ring to go back in when you replace the toilet, or it will leak. Good luck
uh-oh!....You're in trouble now!.. Turn off the water to your bowl..disconnect the water lines and the floor bolts that hold the bowl down to the flange...gently lift the bowl up and see if you can peek under the bowl and see where the snake end is caught...It may be better to clip the snake rather than replace the entire bowl..in either case you have to see if the snake that is caught, did or did not pierce the lead bend trap in the floor..tough -one pal,... GOOD LUCK! What ever you do, DON"T yank too hard on the snake without checking it out first!..it could wind up an expensive disaster..
