I'm painting a hutch in my dining room. What finish paint should I use? Gloss, semi-gloss, egshell, etc.

Question:I'm really not sure what I should use to paint it. Would it be too shiny for gloss? Definitely not flat, right? I'm needing some help. Any insight would be appreciated.

Answers:
I would use Proclassic enamel from Sherwin Williams. It will harden to a very nice finish and wont peel as latex semigloss tends to do from wood. Also make sure you primer it first I would use an oilbased primer and to save clean up I would use ProBlock in the spray can. Also from sherwin williams.

Sheen level is strictly up to you. Typically one would use a satin or s/gloss which allows for durability and cleaning. I would also use an alkyd(synthetic) oil base product, as opposed to a latex or acryllic. Color is irrellevent as well as brand.
I'd go with semi-gloss for a nice shine and ease of cleaning. Let your paint dry completely between coats and do some light sanding before applying the second coat. Stick with a good name brand, not the cheap stuff. I tried using Glidden semi-gloss once trying to safe some money. It took 3 coats of paint on primed molding before it looked like anything other than flat. I've found that with paint, sometimes you really do get what you pay for.
i do agree sheen is up to you however washing this hutch will be
easy with a gloss... try to match the sheen up with any items in the room ... other cabinets walls .
I would do a satin or semigloss. You want it to be durable but without alot of shine. Make sure you use premium quality paint and brushes so it looks professional. If you don't know whats on it right now use a latex paint. If you know it's an oil finish underneath they you can use oil or latex. Just remember oil can only go over oil and latex can go over anything. Good Luck!
