How far from the wall of a house should the eye bolts for a porch swing be installed?
Question:The beam that the eyebolts are mounted to will be about 7 1/2' off the ground.
Thanks

You are probably mounting your swing about 2' off the surface of the porch giving you a 5 1/2' radius. This is a pretty typical set-up so you should be fine keeping the eye bolts 3' off the wall of the house. That gives you room to swing without swinging too hard to hit the house. Assuming your porch is more than 6' or more off the face of the house, this gives you room to not hit your railing either.
With all due respect you left out valuable details. IE: Depth of the porch, and the desire to swing in any wide or shallow arch.
Obviously one might consider that banging against the wall of the house isn't in any plan, nor kicking at a rail at the outer edge of the porch..
That said, "that" assumes only one field of motion. Certainly you can, if you have the space, hang the swing perpendicular to the house and place it similarly so as not to kick at a side railing, or swing in the path of any doorway.
