decking screws just pre drill the holes so it dont split on ya that should hold em together oryou could nail them too but id use the screws
use 1/2" re-bar, one drill bit just under 1/2" cut re-bar to length, drill holes and nail them home. If you are making a wall drill aligned holes from top to bottom row, nail the re-bar through into the ground about 12".

Check with your DIY supplier, they make ally lag screws that you drive with a hex driver and screw gun. They come in different lengths and they are hardier than deck screws
