Will permanent marker stay on shot glasses?

Question:I am planning to design my own shot glasses as a party favor and I was wondering if I could use permanent marker to make a design. Will it rub off or stay? I really hope it stays!! If it doesn't what can I use?

Answers:
Permanent marker dries only semi-permanent. Even after a year it comes off with high proof or rubbing alcohol. Also, sometimes repeated stratching with a fingernail or from bumping glasses in the dishwasher takes if off. For a short term use party favor permanent marker could be okay. If you want something to be a lasting souvineer, then I would suggest glass paint .

permanent marker stays put on glass... so design away! :)
It will stay.
S L has the right answer. Permanent marker will wear off of the glass through use, and some detergents, especially if the contain orange oil/citrus oil/d-limonene will remove it completely (yes, the Orange Clean stuff that comes in a spray bottle will remove permanent marker). You really should use glass paint. You can get it in a pen type applicator, and draw as if you were using a marker.
Permanent marker will come off glass with window cleaner and sometimes even less. I build stained glass art and use permanent markers on glass almost daily. Sometimes I can just rub it off and sometimes I have to use a little glass cleaner but it always comes of without too much effort at all. It just depends on the type of glass. You might look into the glass etching kits from places like Hobby Lobby or Michael's. If you don't have one of those in your area try www.delphiglass.com. Good luck!!
