My first inclination is to say the Lutheran Rose...lol...but that is because I am Lutheran. Is there a symbol that your church uses? Look at the stolls on the altar or the pastors stoll.
If you do a google search for christian images and then select images you will get lots to look through...perhaps something will look right to you. Here is the search I did...

Go to a carpet barn and look at samples and see what would match, the church. The owner at the carpet barn would have some good suggestions for you.

Well, a cross is kinda obvious. How about the initials of your church in some sort of design with a circle around it? Maybe you have a graphic artist in your church that could design it for you. Hope it turns out great!
I would have words in the carpet that say:
Welcome in as many foreign languages as I could fit.
Or, I would have a prayer labyrinth made in the carpet.
I would steer away from the obvious, I personally would want a conversation piece or something that is going to have people asking questions. I would use an ancient symbol or something written in Hebrew. You should use this opportunity to inspire or teach make it more than just pretty.
