Recessed can light in Shower?
Question:We recently installed a recessed can light in the shower. Now it goes off after being on for about 20 minutes. I have a 60 watt bulb in there. Is that too high of watt? Sorry, but I can't find any documentation on what bulb to put in.
Answers:
You need a special insulated fixture for high humidity areas. Code in some area's too.
We have the can lights all through the house. Even one over the tub. We use regular flood light bulbs in all our can lights. They have been working great.
Also, I hope that you have one of those plastic covers over the light.
Sounds like a wire conection to me, for metal expands with heat, thus making a wire nut loose. I can't say that I have seen many can lights "in" the shower in the 20+ years I have been building. The moister might be a problem, or is the light "next" to the shower and not "in" the shower?
Most can lights can have a 75 Watt bulb, but not all of them
We do this all the time at jobs, you can get water-resistant light fixtures (can lights) for the shower.\
-Good Luck!
