I am redoing my open kitchen/ livingroom. Need suggestions.?

Question:The walls are mid grey with white baseboards and molding. Cabinets and shelves are white. I would like to add some bold colors into the mix by painting the cabinet doors a different color. They are white now. What are a few ways to bring the colors into other parts of the space.

Answers:
When it comes to color, nature knows best. Trust your subconscious preferences for precise color shades. Coordinate your colors with your fabric from your living room and counter top. How do you want to feel in your kitchen? Each element should fit in the overall scheme. You want to find a color that will blend with the hue of the Grey. Try to bring a sample of your Grey to the paint store and match to a Grey that they have. Paint strip samples are sectioned off. Follow along the line of the hue of your Grey with each color combination that you like. People see color differently. Your mid Grey might be a coal, pewter, warm Grey, charcoal or silver. This is determined by the undertone.

You could bring in yellow shades, which could be a mustard, a moss green. You could bring in a purple shade, red shade, etc. I would not bring in a blue shade. Foods do not look appealing. Reds stimulate the appetite which is why it is a good choice for dining rooms. It is energetic and also stimulates conversation.

Look to your favorite color combinations that you wear.

But look to the colors of your adjoining spaces.

An inexpensive way to bring in color is to add organic items.
Just look to the outdoors.

You could always paint an accent wall, then carry that color onto your cabinets. Of course, if you painted your cabinets black, you could use almost any color as an accent.
1] paint the cabinet doors a bright red, yellow, green, or blue.
2] paint the LR wall facing the kitchen the same color, and add some pillows, rug, lamps in hues of that same color or prints using that color.
3] buy appliances or appliance covers, canisters, any counter accessories that color or prints using that color.
Alternate:
1] paint the common wall[s] green, for instance. Then paint the kitchen facing wall yellow, and the LR facing wall blue. You can use green and blue for LR accessories, and green or yellow for kitchen accessories.
Alternate :
2] paint the common wall[s] a design, such as stripes of red and gray. Paint one facing wall red, and one facing wall gray.
Etc...
Ways to bring color into other parts of the space are pillows in your bold colors and floor runners or small accent rugs, candles, wall tapestry, plants, etc. I think an accent wall might be better than painting the cabinet doors, but you can always paint over them if they don't look like you want.have fun!
