Little flat?

Question:...needs a bit of touch ups. My flat is small, but tidy and cosy. I'm considering making mozaic wall as a feature in the small living room. One part of the wall in my living room is painted bricks and looks very cheap and nasty. Someone suggested wallpapering it. Also thinking of pulling out the carpet in the living room, putting wooden lino instead. I live in New Zealand, so any NZ DIY-ers out there? I need suggestions/advice before tearing this place down.
