How to remove ceramic tile from sheetrock?
Question:
Answers:
You DON'T remove the tile.you remove the sheetrock and replace it.
I advise useing a drywall knife and cutting around the whole of the tiles and pulling the sheetrock too. Trying to pry off the tiles and compound is just going to damage the sheetrock beyond repair. A sheet runs about $12. It's worth the few minutes it will take to cut out and less of a mess too.
You probably will not be able to save the sheetrock. Loosen the grout around the tiles and start poping them off. The mastic will tear the paper off the sheetrock anyway. If you try to take too much at one time it will be pretty heavy. If the tile is in a bathroom, be sure to replace the sheetrock with green board. It is made for moist areas.
When I replaced the tiles in my bathroom shower, there was mold all over the sheetrock and needed to be replaced.
Cut out the sheetrock with tile, and buy new sheetrock.
