Would it look bad to put a desk in front of a window?
Question:My living room is a rectangular shape, and I have to fit a sofa, love seat, coffee table and two end tables, tv stand, and desk into it. After putting the sofa and love seat and tv stand in the best positions, it seems that the only place left for the desk is in front of my big window at the right side of the "rectangle". Would it be okay to put a desk in front of the window?? I'm on the 3rd floor, so I don't think I have to worry about it looking tacky from the outside. What should I do? Would it look okay like that? My new furniture hasn't arrived yet, so I'm just playing with some ideas.
Answers:
As long as is it not higher than the window, put it there. It won't look bad at all.
I don't see anything wrong with it. If you want to make it look better from the outside, tack a piece of drapery fabric - matching or coordinating with your regular drapes - over the back of the desk. Put some folds in it like in drapes.
Of course! Why not? I wouldn't worry how anything looks from outside either. You have to live inside so that's all that matters.
try using your furniture to partion up your room into seperate living areas. Maybe put the desk facing the back of the sofa in the middle of the room to make one part an office and one a living room? Using rugs on the floor and maybe a folding screen it could help seperate your space too. If the very best possible place for you desk is against the window though I see no problem putting it there since you won't see it from outside!
YOU KEEP POSTING THE SAME QUESTION-what answer do you want?
If you have the room, I would put the desk pulled away from the window facing the room, with the chair back facing the window. This would be much nicer. Make sure to add a vase of fresh flowers and a nice table or desk lamp on the top of the desk to keep it soft.
It might be a good idea to put the desk in front of the window so while working you have "distraction" to look outside. You need to consider where sun comes in to make sure while at the desk the glare is not an issue. Since you brought up the view of the outside, you are concerned about the look even though on the third floor. Try to position things on the desk for minimal visibility from the outside. Depending on the size of the window, you can put half shutters on the bottom of the window which will "block" view from outside, yet still let in light.
