How can you tell if a tiffany lamp is oriiginal?
Question:
Answers:
look it up on line
I have seen Tiffany art on collector programs on TV. And I
have seen that the appraisers look at the base and under it for any inscription with the Tiffany name. I believe it is the full name of Tiffany that you should look for. I don't recall that they use a symbol or a design to indicate who they are. There are
many look alikes out there, but Tiffany always has their
name on the products. We're talking alot of money if you
have the real deal.
Tiffany did mark some lamps, but not all. The work of Louis Comfort Tiffany is known and was recorded. His son's was too. An expert could tell by the glass, copperwork and design all of which are distinctive. Try looking up the Antiques Roadshow on the PBS.org site. See if they list an appraiser in your area. Keep the object in your site. Do not leave it or let anyone take it away from you to look at it.
Good luck! There are Tiffanys out there. I saw one of the dragonfly lamps in a home. I had been working as an apprentice for glass artist trained in Europe at the same time I saw the lamp. You can tell the real ones. The soldering and glass and the general look are distinctive.
