Trying to coordinate brick and trim colors. Please help...?
Question:We're moving into a yellow brick house that as of now has brown trim. I hate it. Yellow bricks a bit hard to match. Any other color combo suggestions. thanks!
Answers:
yellow and green yellow and cream
re-stain the brick? U can do it w/ glaze & paint. Esp. outdoor paint. OR stain... if u put either brown or nutmeg on it, it should tone it down then u could use almost any trim color.
Try it on spot in the back that u may not c that mch. It should work. I know it would b a lot of work, but it sounds like u wouldn't b happy w/ any color on the trim b/c of that brick. Soooo
change the brick color.
It should work...
Go to a paint store, pick up several coordinating 'paint chips' and bring them home. Most paint stores also have complimentary colors, try some of those chips. Before painting the actual trim, use a sample of the color to paint a good sized plank or board of a similar material as the trim. Set the painted board against the brick and step back. See if you like it or keep searching for a color your adore.
I would also take into consideration the color of the roof.
You could find a color to blend with the brick color and do the front door in a contracting color. That would help tone down the brick color. I would probably stick with greens, but if roof is black or grey you could also try shades of blue.
But think I would definitely keep the trim subtle. Might ride around your area and look at other houses with the same brick.
Go to www.HGTV.com website. They have some tools for playing with the different combos. Lets you see what it will look like.
