Painting my Room?
Question:We are building a new house so I get to choose a brand new room color. My current room is yellow, so I want something different. I am fourteen, I love volleyball, and fun and bright colors. Any ideas?

Is your room going to be well lit with natural light? If so, you can do just about anything. If it's going to be lit from within, try to avoid darker colors. I really like to combination of baby blue or light pink with chocolate accents. You've already ruled out yellow - so what about painting the biggest wall in a relaxing blue or light green, leaving the opposite wall white, and painting the lower half of the other two walls?
Try to compliment your bedspread or comforter - the Sherwin Williams site has lots of color wheels and ideas. Have fun!
Maybe you could do a couple of colors. Pick your favorite color as the main color and then do a couple of stripes or some polka dots in a contrasting color.

Go down to your local hardware store and visit the paint section. There will be hundreds of little cards with paint color samples on them. Pick out some that you like and take them home with you -- they are free. How about pumpkin orange or a pretty turquoise?
You want something you can live with for a long time, so maybe choose one of your favorite colors and paint three walls one shade of that color and then another wall a deeper shade of that color. And then bring in all the fun colors you love through accessories - your bedspread, curtains, rug, lampshade, etc.

The first time I got to pick my own room color I agonized over it forever! Bright colors are fun, but sometimes you get sick of them fast (ask my 8 yr. old who insisted on bright pink a yr. ago and is now begging me to paint them!) I would go w/a mint or teal color. Go a few shades lighter then you can brighten it up w/really bright curtains and bedding and accessories. Have fun!
