Where can i take old paint cans that are filled with paint?

Question:i have about 12 gallons of old paint i need to throw away. :O)

Answers:
Most local townships and cities have a hazardous waste recycling center. Call your municipal building for information or check your towns website. If that doesn't work, call a local paint store to find out where contractors dump their old paint.

take them back to the warehouse where you bought them, or to your local dump. Don't stick them in your bin.
Get a couple of bags of kitty litter and fill the paint cans with the litter. Leave the lid off and let the paint dry out completly.

Now the cans are safe to send to a land fill.
there is probably a recycling centre near you they can use or resell it. SARCAN in Canada. or a youth centre
You can also just open up the cans and let the paint dry in them, then toss in the trash-- I poured my old paint out in a large plastic lined tray and let it dry, it doesn't dry well in to cans. Dry paint can be disposed of in the trash, liquid needs to go to a hazardous materials center. trash truck drivers hate paint cans, becuase they burst and spread paint everywhere and leak out.
try freecycle.org - there is a group in almost every town. It's a great way to keep items out of the landfill. Post a notice for free paint - you'll have lots of takers.
