Rough estimate for new kitchen countertops?
Question:So I'm thinking of having new countertops put in my kitchen. I've got about 25 linear feet of counter with a simple U shape and just two 90 degree corners. I'm looking to do this pretty cheap, laminate shoule be the cheapest, but there are some nice other options. Has anyone had this done lately? Just wondering if I could afford having something installed or I'll be limited to trying to install laminate myself. Don't plan on living here forever, just a facelift.
Answers:
Pricing for these things varies considerably by region, but you should be able to buy a laminate top for around $750 plus or minus.
If your top is actually two L shaped pieces instead of one big U, changing the top is not really difficult if your walls are square and plumb. If it is a U, it can be a real bear to get in place and you may have to put one of the corners together once you get the top in place. A bit more difficult.
To have this type of top installed, I $400-$800 for two Ls, $500-$1000 for a true U depending upon where you are and the condition of your walls.
