Let me ask it this way is .55 cent sq ft to high or to low to charge and should that include the ceiling :)?

Question:Im just wanting to be reasonable with prices, some folks say im charging to much and some say im to low.
im starting out as an interior painter only no exterior.
i have all of the supplies to paint with ladder, brushes etc.
i also do wall patch work, so im wanting to charge enough to cover tape and other supplies that i might need and make it easier on the customer to get the paint only.

im new in this business but have experiance in the painting field.
any advice is appreciated.

thanks..Robert

That may be a good price for labor only in some areas but if you are in an area where wages are high like the SF Bay Area that is low for even labor alone. I believe that you are getting different answers based on the area the answerer lives.

not quite sure how to price it
charge extra for extra work...if you have to do a patch job, then it would cost more
$.55 a square foot is a fair price if they supply the paint. If you have to supply the paint, charge about $1.50 a square foot. People don't realize that if they don't want to do it themselves then they have to pay. And as long as you do a great job, you will have very few complaints.
.55 is a fair price for labor, but figure the ceilings and the walls separate and charge .55 for each.
I can give you a formula for figuring the paint you will need, then just add in a small amount for misc, rags, caulk, sanding paper, rollers, etc.
