Paint is too dark...how to lighten??
Question:I bought a can of paint called toasted chesnut.i tried it out on a spot on the wall and it is too dark...I dont want to waste a can of paint or spend extra to fix the problem..
Can i mix some water into the can and lighten up the color? Any suggestions on how to lighten up the paint color?
Answers:
take a small portion of paint and add a light colour like white
and experiment. If it works then add small portions of white to
the dark paint until it is light enough for you.
Go back to where you purchased it and tell them you want it lightened.
No, don't use water! It will only thin it, not lighten it. You might consider purchasing a pint or quart of the same base paint untinted and lighten it by adding the white base in small increments to lighten it up. I've had to do this and it works fairly well. This may require removing some of the tinted paint to make room.
The store will most likely not be able to lighten it.
i would say dont add any water because that would probably ruin the paint and make it too thin, but im no expert but i would say just add in a little white and mix it and see if it makes it your desired shade, if that doesnt work or it is still too dark just add a little more white until it does become light as you want it. i hope this helps you!
Mix it with white. It is real hard to get it mixed good and even but you can do it. Sometimes the place you bought it will do it.They will put it on a machine. Otherwise, you could get a streaked effect.(rainbow)
