Help with painting furniture?
Question:i have some chester drawers and a backboard for my bed that are finished in ..not so attractive colors. is there any way i can redo the colors on these pieces of furniture? its color is a light kind of poo brown. and i want to paint them a deeper brown or maybe a black. any ideas? the pieces may not be stable enough to strip.

light sanding, primer and paint.
If you don't plan to stain the funiture and the current paint is not coming off there is no reason to strip. Just get you a good enamle, which ever gloss you like and put a coat on.
lightly sand the furniture, then prime it with a good primer I suggest X-I-M ...then topcoat it with the color you want in a semi gloss enamel.since your topcoat is going to be dark,expect to apply two coats...painting contractor
Okay, if you are not going to stain the wood and just paint it, then I suggest that you sand the furniture, lightly before painting. This will cause your paint to adhere better to the existing surface.
Use a high quality paint for painting. This will give you the advantage as you may only need to paint it once. If you are spraying the paint, be sure that your strokes are even!! If not, you make get a sprayed look and you do not want that! If you are hand painting, then go with the painting sponges on a handle. They do not leave streaks and such and will give you a more even paint job. Plus, they are beveled at the end which allows you to get into cracks and such! Just be sure that you do not get too much paint on this as you want it evenly distributed.

First of all the chest of drawers should be sanded down. Then washed and dried overnight. Go to the Home Depot and ask the salesperson what would be a good enamel paint for doing over a chest of drawers. They will recommend the right one. I would do the chest of drawers in black. Much more up to date and would go with anything you decorate with. Change the knobs and you will see how you can restore something that is blah and non descript. I would also do the headboard for your bed in black and maybe purchase a stencil to do leaves or flowers (kind of oriental looking). It will give the headboard a really beautiful look and it would be a one of a kind. Note: See if you can hire a creative friend to paint the headboard for you.
