Do i need to use carpet padding with commercial grade carpet?
Question:and why?
Answers:
It depends on whether or not you are desiring a cushioned feel or not. Typically, commercial carpeting is directly glued to the substrate (floor), which can be concrete or wood. But if you desire a padded feel, it is recommended that the padding to glued to the substrate, then the carpeting is directly glued to a commercial grade padding. It's called a double-stick application. Carpet glued to the substrate, without padding, lasts longer then padded carpet, however.
Nope! I learned that one the hard way when the carpet was installed in our new retail location. Cement, glue, and carpet. That's it.
When I bought those types of carpets for my house the carpet retailer said I wouldn't need underlay so I didn't buy it (trying to save money). I really regret it now. The only room that has underlay in it is my baby daughters room (I just bought the cheapest one available) and the carpet looks and feels amazing compared to the rest, I love sitting and walking on it. It's worth the extra money even if you just get the cheapest.
