I want to get into Interior Design, but know nothing about it. Where do I start?
Question:
Answers:
Do you mean you want to just get into playing around with it, or do you want to actually go to school and become a licensed interior designer?
The reason I ask is because there is a big difference between interior design and interior decorating. Anyone (with good taste!) can do interior decorating, but to be an interior designer you have to be licensed and go to a 4 year CIDA accredited school.

American Society of Interior Designers has a good website.

Go to the Become a designer link on the left side to find out more.
If you're really interested in one or the other, then interview people in the profession. Just call people in your area, tell them you'd like to find out more about their job and ask for 15 minutes of their time. This can help you a lot to see if what they do is really for you.
If you don't know anyone in the field, I recommend starting with books. They can give you a general introduction to the principles of interior design. A lot of books will also have additional resources, like websites, where you can learn more. If you really want to get into it, look around to see if there's an agency that needs an intern. Internships are a great way to get experience in the job field of your choice, and they look great on a resume. However, not all internships are paid. There are probably also interior design catalogues out there. Those would be chalk full of pictures and web resources.
One good place to start is with designer closets, I know that may sound boring to you. But people pay big bucks to have closets designed. Working with the home owners during the building process of their new home.
Oh hell, my husbands yelling for me to come to bed. He-He, gotta go. But, I promise I will come back to your question tomorrow and provide you with some helpful links.
So, re-read this tomorrow night and see what I can find:-)

Ok, I own a construction company and the rule of thumb is,
Materials times 3. You add up the cost of all the materials that will be required to do the job, then multiply that number by three, to get your labor cost. Now, if you've never hung any shelving, you will need special wall anchors. You can purchase these at any hardware store, but you'll get a much better price at a screw and fastener company. These wall anchors are called zip-it's, they come in plastic or zinc, I highly recommend the zinc. Here are a few pictures of the zip-it's, one of the most important tools that you will need. I use them for evevything that I need to install, they are rated for different weights, like 50-75 lbs per screw.
This first picture is one in plastic

Look at the ones made of metal, they are the best

You use the wall anchors anywhere that you don't have a stud to screw into
