In house trailers, the strip that goes down the walls everywhere?

Anyhow, my friend wants to paint her walls and her husband says they should not remove those strips. She hates them and says she wants to Spackle them in and paint over. What exactly are those strips for , they go down the walls about every 4 ft. Is it okay to Spackle over whatever cracks would be there and paint over?
Answers:
The strips are there only because the house is a Trailer home. IF the home is never going to be moved, or adjusted in height, then go for it. In mobile homes, the entire building is on a frame, and will tweak one direction or another during transit. If the factory taped and spackled the joints, there would be a million cracks to be repaired by the time the home arrived to its final destination, ie; on blocks or foundation. If either she's planning to grow old there or just won't worry about the next owners job of repairing, then by all means spackle away.
yes, they just cover the seams
Yes, they can be removed and spackled over or simply caulked over with an acrylic caulk. they are just covering seams if the cracks are tight just use the caulk. Sounds like her hubby is not ready for the work!
Sure she can. You're right, they are just there to cover the seams between panels. I agree with her, they're ugly. :)
as long as they were installed properly they should stay up without the seam covers. The compound will shrink and could crack. good luck!
they are called wall strips and they cover where the two pieces of sheetrock meet. Its a lazy way to keep from having to mud. The walls in trailers come pre painted or wall papered and the strips allow them to do this. you can remove them and mud in the cracks...sand and paint over them with no problem.
Depends on how wide the gaps are between the panels. I wouldn't use spackle. Perhaps tape and joint compound would work better -- spackle on a large gap will eventually shrink and show up as vertical grooves under the paint.
If it were me, I'd leave those strips in and paint them the same color as the baseboards and crown molding.
Yes the strips can be removed and covered up with no problem.
i would use paint-able caulking instead of Spackle. the Spackle might crack with shifting or if paneling gets hit where caulking is flexible
