Can i mix primer and paint together to paint my walls?
Question:
Answers:
YES! dont listen to those goofs! it will only reinforce the paint. we do it all the time.
No, they have very different compositions as they serve very different purposes. Primer is made mainly to adhere and does not have the necessary toughness, color fastness or hardness needed in a top coat.
Yes, but it would be better to buy the paint with this already added!! Best of luck!
Um, no. That defeats the whole purpose of the primer. The primer is used for several reasons. One is to cover up the last color so your new color will be pristine and the old color won't "leach" through, ruining your new color. And you won't have to put so many coats on! Another is to "prime" your wall so the new paint sticks to it better. I think there are other reasons that I don't know of.
I'm not sure why you would want to. The purpose of primer is to cover the preivious wall color. For example, if you have red walls and want to paint them ecru, you would need to paint over them with white primer before painting them ecru. If you are going the other way, say you have ecru walls and want to paint them red, you can buy tinted primer that is a similar, but not the exact shade of the paint you are using.
You could just do 3 or 4 coats of paint, but primer is much less expensive. It doesn't have the finished look or durability of paint, though. And mixing the primer with the paint will ruin your paint.
Home depot's "Behr" brand has developed an interior formula that combines both paint and primer in one product. The stuff is so good, that the professionals are buying out the stores of the 5-gallon lugs. But you can still get gallons.
Yes. There is at least one brand that has primer in it. I have uased it several times and it works fine.
