I would like to tile my stoop?

Question:I want to tile it so that it's more attractive and easier to clean. I love the look of slate yet I'm worried about the slickness factor in using any tile outside. Is there something I can put on it once it's layed that will make it less slippery or is there a better choice than slate for this particular job? Would limestone or some other stone do better or are they all about the same?

Answers:
Slate is a good choice, it is usually naturally slip resistant. Slate's natural tendancy is to chip and sliver top layers over time. Your tile person can seal with a nonkid sealant.

Make sure you tile with a natural stone, they are usually more porus than ceramic tile and therefore, naturally more slip resistant. Some tiles or stones will show if it is recommended for outdoor or floor usage. A honed finish is desired for non-slip surface. Brick pavers also make a good outdoor flooring choice.
