Painting exterior brick?

Question:What is a good way to update the exterior of my home. It is from seventies and you can tell. It is brick and veneer. Can I paint the brick? What other ways could I make it look modern?

Answers:
I have to tell you MY experience: Someone long ago (way before I ever bought my house) painted my beautiful, wide, brick chimney white.all over the whole thing. This must have seemed like a good idea to someone a long time ago. Fast forward to when I bought the house, and half of the white paint has worn away, and ten years of trying to get the rest of it off in dozens of different ways, giving little to no results. So, I had a brainstorm, and I got a good sponge, some rosey brick colored paint, and I painted each brick individually by swiping the sponge across the brick, not by dabbing it. I did NOT paint where the cement is between the bricks. The result? All of my neighbors thought I got the white paint off, and wanted to know how I finally did it. It came out great!! If you didn't know that it was ever painted white to begin with, you'd never know that it wasn't just plain old beautiful brick! The point to my story? You can do the same thing, the same way, with the color of your choice, be it beige, tan, grey, whatever, and it will look way better than just painting the entire brick area. TRUST ME!! I KNOW!!

you can paint it big fluffy roller or stucco it like a spanish home

I suggest paint
First of all, DON'T PAINT IT! Phew.. Now that I got that off of my chest ( I just like brick) you can update it by painting it a cream color. Brick always looks clean and accepts creams or whites as their first coat. After that you can paint it any color you wish. Make sure you use a thicker roller that holds alot of paint. And, before you start with the roller, you will want to seal the brick with either just a sealant or a primer. This will make sure that the brick does not absorb all of your paint, and you wont have to do as many coats. Also, brick is very porous, so sealing it before painting will keep the paint cost down. Good Luck
The elegance of the brick is its natural colour. If you paint it it may look like a plastered wall.
1. Remove the fungi from bricks. Any home maintenance firm would do it for you. It is done by a high pressure water jet.
2. Invisible spray. This is combination of white spirit & acrylic. ICI paints make it with name DUCK'S BACK. This seals the micro pores in the bricks. As such no more molds on bricks giving blackish look.
