Whats the big deal about crown molding? How much is it to add to a room?
Question:Crown molding looks fine but I was curious why so many people made such a big deal about it. I priced it and it seems to be about $1-2 per linear foot and fairly cheap to install. Is it worth putting into my condo to increase the value?

Yes it is. It definitely adds character to a room. People like Crown molding.
If there were two similar condos up for sale and one had crown and the other didn't, chances are good that the one with the crown molding will sell faster and for a little bit more.

Crown molding gives a more finished, expensive, quality look to rooms. It is simply a popular design technique these days. It does add the look of value to a room and although it may or may not increase the value it might increase the appeal that your condo has over another of similar value and might make yours more readily saleable. Since you feel it is inexpensive it might be worth it and especially if you or a friend can install it. It is fairly easy to miter corners and install so good luck.
If you do not know anything about installing this or working with tools, get some help from a friend who does, or hire a professional carpenter to install. Badly installed would be worse than none at all. Good luck.

Given the option, I would always recommend that a client add crown molding - if it made sense. And crown molding does add value to any home. It gives the home a more modern and updated, traditional look.
