Question:I need to know what color I should paint my living room. I have zebra cushions on black couches. I'm thinking either red or a light blue, I just don't know which. I would really appreciate some input or if anyone has another color that might look good, I'd love to hear it!
Answers:
red would be really pretty but it might overpower your room if it's not enormous. have you thought of maybe doing three light color walls and one red wall? It would be gorgeous and not be too much. A very light soft grey would be pretty for the other 3 walls or even white. I like a lot of color though so i'd probably not go with white.
You could even do a nice soft tan and one red wall - that would go well with the furniture in the room as well.
Just remember 2 things.
1.) It's only paint you can always redo it if you end up not liking what you choose - and
2.) As long as you like it - that's all that matters.
Happy decorating.
I'd paint one wall one color and the rest white. Whatever you hang on the white walls will "pop", and you can accent using rugs, pictures, etc. with the color of the wall.
Even though animal prints aren't my thing, I'd think turquoise or red would look good..or both!
i really like the idea of a bably blue..but i also think that a rosy color would look really nice..or maybe a pastel green..that way the color isnt like "WOW!!" you know? so something soft but yet flashy..like green...and maybe even purple..my idea..is to go to the paint store..and get a little color book, bring it back to your house and go through some different colors, then when u have a few, cut out the square and tape onto ur wall and see which color looks best.. good luck with everything.
If I were to choose either red or light blue, I'd choose red, but not on all the walls. Choose the largest wall for an almost red, that deep, almost marroon color. Perhaps buy a rug with some red and black in it, and then buy the paint to match the rug. The other three walls I'd go with a gray-ish to white color. Depending upon the way your home is set up, you could always make a chair rail go across at about the 1/3 way up from the floor, and then paint the top half the lighter color and the bottom half, under the chair rail the deep red noted above. The chair rail itself, I'd think about a whole new color, perhaps match the black or even white?
Well that's my two cents. I had fun dreaming for you. Hope you enjoy decorating the room. Good luck!
A hot new color that is out is chartruse. It is a bright color, but I think would look great with the furniture you described. I know that red would be a good color also, I would put it on either the longest wall of the room or possibly across the entry door. I have a red wall in my house, and it is directly across from the entry door.
Good luck!
Yes, you can paint a wall in the living room red. I can tell by how much furniture you have in the room that it would possible. However, for it to have the look that I think you want, you are going to have to paint the molding white. Red can be done, it just has to be done tastefully. And a good way to do it, is to have it carry over into adjacent room.
This might not be possible, but someone I used to babysit for had a red dining room and living room. It worked really well for her because she had a lot of natural lighting (multiple doors and windows) and she has high ceilings.
I have a few plans for you:
Plan I
Paint the focal wall red. You might be ask, what is the focal wall. The focal wall should ideally be the longest wall and not have any windows or anything. That way it'll give you a solid backdrop for your sofa. It sets the tone for the rest of the room. The color that I have in mind for you is Poppy (Benjamin Moore, 1315) it's a bold red, but not so bold that you couldnt live with it. Then I think you should paint the other walls in white opulence (Benjamin Moore, 815). All of the moldings and base boards should be painted in the white also.
The one thing that I would tell you to do for sure is place the sofa on the red wall. To recommend anything else, I would have to see a picture of the room or have the dimensions of everything in the room.
Plan II
I would paint the walls a nice turquoise or teal blue. Zebra print and turquoise are a classic combination and it would look excellent. I recommend San Clemente Teal or Surf City(Benjamin Moore 730 and 731). And a third option would be Mexicali Turquoise (Benjamine Moore 662). If you like this option, I think it would reat if you kept the base boards and moldings black. It would really make the room pop. This has the potential to make the room more formal.
Plan III
Paint all of the walls in the San Clemente Teal and on the focal wall, use the Mexicali Turquoise and Surf City to color block the wall. This would be great because it brings in a pattern which I think would help set off the zebra print. I did this, I would paint the trim and baseboards white, however. To do this you basically tape off random squares on the wall and use the other colors to create blocks.
These are just a few ideas, but you really can paint your walls red. The key is just to pick the right shade. It's all about how you use color.
