What are the options for replacing a claw foot tub with a pre-fab shower stall?
Question:My parents own an 1890 home in rural Nevada. They need to replace the classic claw foot tub with a shower. Their local plumber stated that custom 'walls' needed to be contstructed to hold the pre-fab shower stall. I've seen many shower configurations with 3 glass walls and a back wall. They would like to acquire a pre-fab shower stall with clear/glass walls and put it where the tub is (against a wall back). Flooring is stable. The shower stall could plug into the tub plumbing. Why would the plumber need to create side walls in this situation? What are the options? Thanks.

Determine the available space, then go to maax.com to see all the specs, as to what may fit your application. Good that you are watching out for their interests
A prefab unit is usually all fiberglass and it needs to be attached to the wall studs. That is why he wants to build walls.
If you want an all glass unit you would use a fiberglass shower pan and then install the glass on top of the pan. It will still need one sturdy wall to mount to.
