Tips for painting a metal garage door?

Question:I cleaned it and am all set to go...
it is rather warm here.is it not good to paint when it is hot out? (I know not to paint in the bright sun) should I wait for late summer / fall when it is cooler? (instead of 80's)

also - this may sound sill but I do not know where I should start!
The door is a sectional door with four panels and there is the ruber trim on the sides - do I paint in between the panels first or the main door first? and should I take off the trim or just paint around it (it is nailed on)

My thought was to paint the cracks/folds first but I am not sure how to do this -should I
remove the panels/leave the door in an open position and use a ladder to paint the folds while it is open?
or , paint the face and forget about the folds?

thanks !

Answers:
you have already sanded it so lets do it right! go to SHERWIN WILLIAMS. cut and roll . spraying is not for you! use pro block primer. then paint it with SUPER PAINT. have them tint your pro block 50%. dont forget your drop cloth, super paint willl stick to your floor!

You should take the door panels off the garage door and paint them individually. Make sure you use a good metal exterior primer and paint. Paint it earlier in the morning and leave to dry in the sunlight you will get a nice baked on finish (this will last longer than if you paint later in the season). If you are going to do a job then do it right!
First off, take the door apart. It will make your job a lot easier doing it that way. Then sand it lightly. Tape off the rubber strips (do not paint them). Use a metal primer before you paint. You should paint all sides of each panel individually. Give it a few hours to dry then reassemble it and install it and your done!
Temperature is not a factor if you use oil base paint. Never use latex on metal even if the sales man tells you to. The door should be sprayed or use an (all Paint)fine smooth roller. lacquer is best but only to be sprayed .Don't paint panel first unless they are to be a different color. The rubber on sides ,top, bottom should be cover with masking Tape. Put drop cloth under door and paint in a closed position. Forget the cracks just paint the surface. when finished raise the door for drying.
Always start in the panels and work your way out. Don't take the door apart. Also use blue tape to tape off the rubber pieces. I would use Sherwin Williams A-100 Exterior Oil Based Primer. Once this is dry lightly sand and apply two coats of Sherwin Williams A-100 Exterior Latex Satin Paint. Satin Paint wears better than a flat paint will. Good Luck!
