How can I hang a heavy mirror on the wall without tearing down the drywall?
Question:I just bought this mirror that's about 25 pounds. I want to hang it on the wall, but I'm afraid I will put it in drywall and tear the whole damn wall down! I know that using a stud-finder will help me to put it in the wood in the wall, but what else can I do to ensure that the mirror will be secure?
Answers:
25 pounds is not that heavy and you shouldn't have a problem with the drywall. I would drill 2 holes and put toggle anchors in them, then screws. Leave the screws out from the wall enough that you can hang the wire from the mirror over them.
25 pounds is actually not that heavy and you should be able to use drywall anchors even if you do not hit studs, but you should use at least two or three spaced anchors. If you can screw into studs then that is even better.
Heavy duty wall anchors. Check your local hardware store and check the ratings.
Find a real stud to hang it for you.
Try involving two studs, if you can still locate the mirror where you want it. Use lag bolts instead of screws. Drill a pilot hole for each lag bolt.
Anchors are available in many sizes and meant for different weights. If you were to look in the hardware section of Walmart, you will also find different picture hooks with the weight limits listed on the packages. Try using at least one stud if at all possible for added security.
use a heavy duty hanger on the stud, this should be sufficient....or hang it to 2 studs...one hanger per stud and a wire to connect them.the other ends connect to the pic frame
There is a special thing called a Hercules Hook. Look on herculeshook.com They claim it holds up to 150 lbs and only leaves a hole the size of a pin. They sell for approx 15 dollars and you get 20 of them in a pkg. I bought them at one of those "as seen on TV stores", but you can also buy them online at the hurculeshook.com
Good Luck
