Renovation rules on grade II listed buildings?

Question:what are the restictions on renovating a grade II listed house, eg, can we put a toilet in the house, and removed the out side loo!! etc etc

Answers:
you cant even fart in it without planning permission.

you cannot change the exterior i think
talk to the planning people in your local council offices, they will be able to tell you exactly what you can and cannot do, and what you need plannjng permission for. Always take advice about things like this, from the proffesionals, and not from people on here who may well be from other countries, or just guess the answer. If you get it wrong, it could cost you a lot of money.
You require Listed Building consent. Make an appointment with the Councils Conservation Officer who will tell you whether your proposals would be acceptable. If so you will have to have plans drawn up and submit the application. You will also require Building Regulations approval so speak to the Building Control Department also. Please do not go ahead without following this advice - it is a criminal offence to carry out works to a Listed Building without the correct consents.
