To measure roof sq. footage-legth times width of each side of roof (40' x 10' = 400 s.f. Then, add 10% for waste. Most bundles of shingles are 1/3 of a square, so for a roof 10' x 40' on each side it would work out to 880 s.f., rounded up to tne next bundle, or 27 bundles. Good luck.
measure the dimensions of your roof and convert it to square feet, and the allow for the start row, and the ridge cap..it is better to have a little over than not enough, most bundles tell you how many sq ft it covers.
call someone for an estimate... then go buy the appropriate number of bundles yourself. if you dont know how you are putting them on, have a professional do it. you dont get a second chance for roofs.
3 bundles per square. If your new to roofing and you're going to remove all to the decking don't forget extra for turning round at the edges!! Here in Okla I think you can have up to 5 layers deep before complete overhaul.
Measure the dimensions of your roof. Most shingle packages give you estimates on the package itself. Go to Lowes or Home Depot and ask an associate if you need help. It's better to buy a little bit extra. You can always return what you don't use. Just check every package and make sure they are all the same. Some people don't stock similar items together all the time.
start with square footage of roof. 100 square feet is called "one square" of shingles. The last time I bought shingle was twenty years ago. Then 3 bundles per square. ask the salesperson to make sure.
Figure the square footage of the roof. 3 bundles will cover approximately 100sf.
Measure the area to be covered, multiply to find the sq.footage, divide by 100 to get the no. of squares.
Composition shingles are available by the bundle or by the sq., 3 bundles per sq.
we did our roof a few years ago & if memory serves me right, one bundle of shingles will cover one standard sheet of plywood
