In my dorm, I am not allowed to use tape, nails, or adhesive hooks on the walls or furniture. what do i use??
Question:I am a very creative and organized person. I want to bring some things to put up on my side of the walls like pictures and art, but were not allowed to use nails, tape or anything that damages the walls. Do you know any material that is strong enough to hold a canvas up a whole semester, yet stays within the rules of our dorms?
Answers:
3M adhesive hooks don't damage the walls, is that what they're talking about? If you can't use those, the only thing I can think of is Sticky Tack. It's like a sticky plastic that you can use to hang posters and light weight artwork with. I think it would be strong enough to hang your canvas, you may have to use a lot of pieces along the canvas, but it doesn't damage walls. You can buy it anywhere, Walmart probably carries it, or any art supply store. Ask them about 3M hooks, though. I'll post a link so you can see what it looks like.

you can try tacks. or does that count as nails?
Use stick on frames. Put the picture in the frames and they will stick to the wall. ( Magnets, try them)
Two suggestions. the first is to use sticky tacky stuff. you can buy it in the school supply section, and you can reuse it, as long at it doesnt get too dirty.
if you're gonna be rough on the canvas, try using thumb tacks. i know, they aren't allowed, but after you take it down, use white pasty tooth paste to caulk the holes. sometimes it helps. :) good luck!
try some glue globs..their clear white globs of a glue that looks and feels like sticky glob of clear plastic..you remove them from the paper and apply to what you want to hang..you may need several of these.. also try the kind of hangers that stick to the walls and yet pulls right off when ya need to...
i wanted to say as well..as far as hanging material on walls..dontknow about canvas but might be worth a try... dip the fabric or brush the canvas with liquid clothing starch..has to be liquid..then ring out and apply to the wall... smooth out wrinkles and when it sdries itll look like paint or paper but it will come off as easy as pulling one corner and removing..then after removal..just wipe off the dried starch and you cnat tell anything was there.. i lvoe this... it works so well and i cna change material and looks often
How about the sticky tack gum that you can buy? It comes in blue strips that you ball up like gum and it holds your pictures to the wall well. It comes off clean when you're ready to take things off the wall and will come off the back of your canvas too. A CVS or Walgreens should have it ~
Clay puddy
if you cant use any kind of adhesive or nails, theres really nothing~except find you some picture stands~you can find them at ikea or picture store~but if you really want them hanging you can~get some fishing line~mount it to the top two corners and hang it from the ceiling corners~
Nothing except nails will hold canvas up on the wall for the whole semester. You can try an easel if you really like one picture.
However, if your walls are white or off-white, go ahead and put slender nails in the wall. At the end of the year, fill the holes with white toothpaste and they will never see it. Even better, you can use cheap "spackle", from the paint store which will truly repair even big holes, and takes just a few minutes.
That's what I did in college, we had the same rules.
Posters without frames can be held up with a putty made exactly for that purpose -- no holes and comes off easily.
how about gluing cork to an inexpensive old closet door or piece of cheap mdf from a second hand shop or home improvement store, and covering the whole thing with a piece of decorative fabric, using spray adhesive & stapling on the backside of the door. Lean the newly made decorative cork board against the wall, or do a smaller version an lean it at the back of your desk, & voila, a place to tack photos, art, mementos!
Also a picture frame room divider might work, they usually sell them at walmart, etc
