We need new carpet on stairs and hallway. What is best, berber vs. regular?
Question:we have high traffic and alot of outdoor/indoor living, ie dirty feet. The salesman did not seem to be equivocal with the choices. any idea would be appreciated!

berber is a better choice for a few reasons ... it is usually speckled and hide dirt well and it holds up better than a plush for the price .. plush is better if you have animals because they can catch their nails in the loops of a berber .. if you go with a berber try not to get a 100% olifen because most are cheaply made and if you go to plush get a 100% nylon w/ multi tones .. you could also go commerical they have alot of pretty styles and colors now. whatever you decide to do get a good pad it helps with the wear and tear.

since the stairs is probably the most traffic area, I would use berber or that carpet that you can use in sunrooms and rental properties.
Don't use berber. It is synthetic and wicks up. so even if you clean it will look dirty the next day because it wicks the dirt to the top of the fibers. Consider a more natural fiber like a cotton blend in a shorter nap in the high traffic area.
i would say regular cuz you can steam clean it and debris doesn't get so "trapped in" like berber
As a carpet salesman, I would suggest a nice frieze. Friezes , those made of nylon that is, are not a shag, because they are shorter, easier to vaccum, and help hide tracking.
The two areas of high wear are the hallways and stairs. These areas will show wear and tear faster than any other part of the house. A frieze is designed to take that abuse and then some. I suggest that you look at friezes made from Stainmaster, esp from the Ultra Life line, if anyone carries it however in your area.

You may want to go into a showroom and take a look around to see what people carry. Salesmen can carry only oh so many samples with us, so take a look around to see what people have to offer.
