What can I use to cover an ugly tile floor with something that is durable, waterproof, and inexpensive?
Question:I have a porch with an ugly 12x12" tile floor. The tile has a texture to make it appear to be stone -- EXTRA ugliness! I need to do something to make it look better until I can afford to remove the tile and retile with updated materials. In the mean time, I want to make it look better. The constraints are that there is an in-ground hot tub in the porch, so water on the floor is an issue. Also, this is a porch that handles lots of foot and pet traffic between outdoors and our home's interior. Any suggestions?
Answers:
If it's temporary how about concrete floor paint.
Indoor-outdoor carpeting will work perfectly, especially around the hot tub. It is reasonably priced, and now would be a good time to catch it on sale.
they make really nice looking indoor/outdoor carpet now some even look like berber and they aren't as rough on the feet as a AstroTurf . you can use double face tape to secure it if it's only temporary
There is some astro-turf lookin stuff that is like grass but its plastic. It is outdoor carpet type stuff. It will hold up to the water and the mud and just about anything you can put it through. It is also good because you can get it in different colors other than that. green. That would be best for a temporary fix until you are ready to rip up the old and put in the new. Also you could put this stuff in the garage if you are into cars later on for something to lay on besides concrete. The fake astro-turf stuff is good to have and you can use so much with it...or when you are done or tired of it.you can just toss it. Simple...and this is coming from someone who has grown up in the construction world and married into it as well. Good luck and I hope this helps.
If you buy into the system you perpetuate the problem.
Solution is simple, sand.
Congoleum is a way, is simple to lay and rather cheap.
OutDoor Carpet is good also, soft on the feet.
Pull the old tile and sand the area, take a look at it. a long look.
