Painting maple cabinets. Sanded them, then 5 coats of primer but yellowing shows through??

Question:I sanded them down to the wood but I think the wood is either absorbing the paint or staining the primer and the primer ends up yellowed (looks terrible). Either way, the primer dries with a yellow hugh. Any suggestions on a product or method that will solve this problem? When I don't sand an area down to the wood, then it works fine, but I am hesitant not to sand because I don't want chipping later. Please help!

Answers:
Don't know what kind of primer you are using. If it is a Latex primer is probably bleeding because of water base. Try using a primer that is also a sealer. There are many good ones on the market. They will tell you right on the label. Like a product called Kilz. Don't know if it is in your area though. These absolutely do not allow bleed through. Some you will not need to re-sand. Just apply it right over your current primer. Ace Hardware sell some good stuff. Ask them, they can direct you to the right product.

go & buy some primer/sealer. b.i.n is pretty good
Maple or any kind of wood cabinets most likely have a poly or shellac or varnish finish. In order to paint over that you have to 'degloss' it, they sell a deglosser at WalMart. Unfortunately, I can't see what you have now, are you using Bin sealer? Or some other SEALER, not just a primer. Try WalMart for that too. I have refinished about everything and the deglosser works on any kind of wood that has been sealed with varnish or something like that.
The two answers that you got suggesting B.I.N are correct, except that it needs to be the white shellac version. The water base will not work.

Kilz will not work. I once saw a ceiling with 3 coats of Kilz oil base that still left the stain bleeding thru. I have never used it because of that.

Problem: you will need to remove the paint you already applied and start over in order to use B.I.N (by Zinser) White Shellac. If you do not, the BIN will cause alligatoring type cracking in the existing paint and the top coat.

The BIN is difficult to apply, cleans up with denatured alcohol (NOT paint thinner or water). Makes an excellent primer for all types of enamel paints which you should use as our top coat on kitchen cabinetry.

Been there done it, many times, professionally.
