Can anyone help with replacement windows?
Question:I'm in the Boston, MA area and have a small ranch house with aluminum, storm windows. There are a total of eight windows on three sides to replace: 4, 2 and 2.
Side one has 2 small, one medium, one large, to replace. Second side 2 small. Third side, 2 medium.
I know I don't have the budget for all at once, but could I start on one side without the house looking "strange"?
What kind of windows would give me the biggest bang for the buck?
Answers:
New windows... biggest bang. Not a good combination.
Vinyl, PVC, windows are no maintenance, very energy efficient, and relatively cheap that is why they are the most used window in new construction. Home centers sell them at quite reasonable prices, order them with dual glazing, inert gas fill and low e film. This is standard stuff, not an add on for most manufacturers.

Aluminum is really awful, isn't it? I had to replace all my windows in my first new house three times because the seal broke under warranty.
Back to Pella. Wooden windows are the best, followed by vinyl and if the only thing you can afford...the dreaded aluminum. Windows usually come in white or off white, so keep the same color to avoid the "strange" look you want to avoid. Wodd windows add value to your house but are extremely expensive. See if your city has any energy saving rebates.just a thought.
