I'm 16 and I'm doing a little bit of a room remodel. Take my advice since you're starting anew and don't jump on the first thing you like. Take your time to decide on colors and patterns and everything else going into your design. Also think of how you will like it as the time goes by. I did my room when I was in 2nd grade and now I really don't like it but there's not much I can change besides the bedspread and curtains.
Don't limit yourself so that there is a possibility for change in the future.
Great lamps and floor cushions.

brown and turquoise with white accents!
I always sway between THE ROYAL or TROPICAL theme.
There are hundreds of variations of each theme:
ROYAL:
-Princess Pink
-Indian Royal Chamber
-Purple-Gold-Red Theme,
TROPICAL:
-Caribbean theme,\
-Hawaii theme
-Green-Bright Yellow-Fuscia Pink
Start by writing down things about yourself. For example, say you're really into butterflies & would like butterflies in your room. Write down butterflies. Then write down your favorite colors. Then let that be you're inspiration. If you can't think of anything, shop for your bedding first & when you find something you really like, that could be you're inspiration, & then you could pick a color that matches a color in the bedding. Same way with you're curtains, pillows, rugs, lamps, chairs, etc. Then you could put candles, pictures, etc. to help decorate your room.
