Does anyone put up wallpaper anymore or it is a thing of the past? We are redecorating and need some ideas.?

Question:We have 3 bedrooms with wallpaper from 10 years ago. The walls used to be panelled. Now, we don't know what to do. Painting over the wallpaper is hard and not guaranteed to look good. Just repapering would be easy, but is it out of style?? Has anyone had this same experience recently? If so, please give me some suggestions.

Hi, My Father and Grandfather where professional decorators , (dad only in his spare time) They used to paint big murals on walls and wallpaper ceilings! Today I think it's all up to the homeowners individual tastes. I guess its called a Theme. Do what you think looks best for the look you want. I have wallpapered rooms in my house until I got stumped one day on the problem of not being able to find that certain "Look" for one of the rooms. I knew what I wanted, I had the material, but couldn't find the right wallpaper. Instead I put the material on the wall! I tell you ,after that, I swear I will NEVER put wallpaper up again EVER! It went up as easy as putting butter on bread! If I didn't get the seam matched, just take it off and move it,if it gets dirty, take it off and wash it! I didn't even need tools to put it up. Just spray liquid starch on the wall, hold the material up and smooth it in place with your hand. The material is thick enough to hide any wall imperfections and goes over wall paper too.

Wallpaper is alive and well and in style. Many model homes in this area decorated by top designers, have a lot of wallpaper.
wallpaper isn't out. But i would recommend taking the old paper down lst. IF it was previous treated correctly... it may come off fairly easy. But if not... u need to get a device that scores the paper then u can start scraping it off. As u'r local paint/wallpaper store b/c i know there r better methods than when i did it.

Then depending on the wall after the wallpaper is removed, u may have to lightly sand it. Then u can apt to re-paper or paint or texture u'r walls.

I've seen them paint over wallpaper, but I think that is kinda tacky but if that's all that is left.. then i can understand. Wallpapers r getting sooo up todate & awsome ideas to mimic faux finishing etc.

http://www.decoratingtoday.com has tons of inexpensive paper etc..

It's work to do anything the correct way but if u don't, u'll have headaches later.
Put proper lining paper up that can be painted over if the walls are really bad. It can be expensive but looks OK - don't forget that you put it on horizontally and not vertically.I personally don't have any paper but that is my choice. You can always just do one feature wall in a patterned paper i you want to.
Wallpaper is very stylish! My family is redecorating also and our designer said that wallpaper is in and much fancier than paint.
trust me go with the wallpaper
Are you kidding? Wallpaper has never gone out of style. There are certain rooms that I have to have wallpaper. They are the kitchen and bathroom. If I could afford it, I'd wallpaper all my rooms. Wallpaper can add warmth and texture without having a noticeable print if you just want color, plus when you wash it, unlike paint you won't be washing the color off. If you do want a pattern to show, the wallpaper can add a theme to your room. I know you see a lot of painted walls on the home shows, but when people have money to spend (only my opinion) wallpaper adds a richness to the room. I personally like tone on tone stripes for a basic style, but actually I love all wallpaper when you coordinate it well with your bedspread or sofa it gives your room a cohesive look that looks like an Interior Designer did it for you.
here we go.. now yes people still wallpaper..and its fun.. also painting over the old paper isnt hard at all.. at firs titll look like it has wrinkles in it..then when its dry?? it smooths out..
have you tried some faux finishes>?? i love the sponged look.. its where you take 2-3 colors of paint..like dark blue..med blue and alight and get a seasponge and dip in paint..take off excess..and dab on the walls..then with the med color then the light color and just keep doing this til its done..i love the effects of it... also cheaper than wallpapering..
also i take liquid starch and get material or old sheets or new.. and i dip the flat sheets in the liquid starch..has to be liquid in bottle as spray starch wont work.. then dig material in starch.. wring out the excess and put on the wall.. smooth out the wrinkles and whn dry?? looks like wallpaper.. its gorgeous..theres so many differant patterns for sheets these days and alot are using them for wallpapering... makeing blankets... curtains..pillows etc.. this way you can ge tco-ordinating effects for a room without spending alot of money
good luck.. oo by the way.. when youd ecide youw nat to remove the material you just peel it off like paper..easier than paper as well.. then take a damp cloth and wipe off the dried starch which is very simple and your ready to redo the walls again
ugh, wallpaper! It is a pain to take down, but atleast in our area...it also seems to be a thing of the past.

Don't paint over it, we tried that first and it was terrible. If you are going to paint, you are just going to have to suck it up and tear it down.
wallpaper are back again . and all nice design as well so why not do that it will look lovely.
